CTCRM Lympstone

The role of the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines is to train regular and reserve new entry personnel for service within units of 3 Commando Brigade and other operational units within the Royal Marines Command, as well as to support the structure of the Corps by providing an extensive package of continuation courses which enhance infantry and Commando skills. All Royal Marines return to Lympstone many times as they progress through their career.

CTCRM at Lympstone is 9 miles from the cathedral city of Exeter which is served well by good rail links. There are good parking facilities and several Park and Ride sites. Exeter is a major city which offers many of the high street names, with good facilities at the historic quayside offering a range of specialist shops, restaurants, pubs. The seaside town of Exmouth is the nearest town to CTCRM (5min drive) where several leading retailers and a small array of unique shops can be found. There is also a wonderful two mile stretch of sandy beach. CTCRM is served by Lympstone Commando railway station on the Avocet Line (not in public use).

Facilities at Lympstone are wide ranging. They include, a first class gymnasium complex and swimming pool for combat swimming tests, an indoor range simulator incorporating the latest laser technology, a nearby 300 metre rifle range to assist Recruits in their shooting skills and on site training areas within the 95 acre base. In addition CTCRM has access to 2,500 acres of nearby Woodbury Common, as well as the training areas of Dartmoor and others in Wales and Scotland.

The camp also has other facilities: a brand new Learning Centre, with PCs with Internet access, Library, Education and Resettlement Centre, Chaplaincy, Amenities Office, Barber, Spar/NAAFI Shop, Tailors Shop, Bank, UIF Shop, Boat House and Activity Centre.
